Is a Photo Booth Worth It for Your Event Size?
Whether a photo booth makes sense for a small gathering, a mid-size party, or a large event, and what to weigh besides guest count.
Small Gatherings (Under 50 Guests)
For a smaller party, a photo booth can still be a highlight, especially for milestone birthdays, engagement parties, or intimate showers. With fewer guests, even a shorter rental gives everyone a chance to use it more than once, and prints make a nice take-home favor.
If your budget is tight, a roaming or open-air booth booked for a shorter window is often the most cost-effective way to add the experience without a large commitment.
Medium Events (50 to 150 Guests)
This is the range where photo booths tend to deliver the most value per dollar. There are enough guests to keep the booth busy throughout the rental window, and the props and backdrop give people something fun to do during downtime between dinner, speeches, and dancing.
A standard three-hour rental is usually a comfortable fit for this size event.
Large Events (150+ Guests)
With a larger guest list, a single booth may develop a line during peak times. That isn’t necessarily a problem, lines can add to the energy, but if you want to minimize wait times, ask vendors about options like a second booth, an additional attendant, or a roaming booth running alongside a fixed one.
Larger events also tend to benefit more from features like a shared online gallery or instant digital sharing, since not every guest will get a chance to wait for a print.
Beyond Headcount: Other Things to Weigh
- Budget: Compare the cost of a booth against other entertainment or favor options for your event.
- Event style: Formal events may favor a polished mirror or enclosed booth, while casual events suit open-air or roaming setups.
- Keepsake value: Printed photos double as a party favor, which can offset other favor costs.
- Guest engagement: A booth gives guests something to do during slower parts of the event, like a long cocktail hour.
